The Curriculum

Please use the links to the left to read information about each Curriculum subject at Little Stanion.

The curriculum at Little Stanion Primary has been developed to meet the needs of pupils working within the National Curriculum and the challenges presented by a constantly changing world, where all people are equal whatever their race, religion, gender and ability.  The curriculum is built on creative principles, strongly underpinned by the rigorous teaching of English, Maths and Science.  The teaching of History, Geography, Dance, Music, Design Technology, French, Physical Education and Computing is carried out through creative and emersive approaches, stimulating our children to learn.

In the early years the children are taught early reading using the Read Write Inc scheme for reading.  This programme teaches sounds in a systematic way, using well structured books to encourage all children to read, no matter what their level.  Children access Read Write Inc according to their ability, and are taught in small groups during a dedicated whole school reading session.

Once a year each class carries out a completely emersive transformational project whereby everything they are taught uses the topic stimulus.  Themes have included The Wonder World of Roald Dahl, Life in China, Fairy Tales and The Vikings, Friend or Foe?

A copy of the national curriculum document can be found below.  All teaching and learning from years 1 to 6 comes from the National Curriculum.   The Early Years curriculum for nursery and reception is taken from the Early Years Framework.  A copy of which is also avaliable below.
