Languages
At Little Stanion Primary School our chosen language of study is French. Children have the opportunity to develop their French language skills as well as learn about French culture and traditions. We have a foreign language teacher who provides the children with an excellent model of French spoken language as well as bringing new ideas and activities into school.
The children will learn new skills in each year group and will build upon their knowledge as they progress through Key Stage 2.
The aim of teaching French is to provide children with the opportunity to learn a new language and to develop their aspirations for travel, food, culture and future professions.
Intent
Our vision for Languages is that we provide lessons which engage and inspire all children to learn our focus language - French. Learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures and develops their understanding of the world. Our Languages curriculum is driven by engaging opportunities for children and the opportunity to listen to, speak and sing in French.
Implementation
At Little Stanion Primary School the children in Years 3-6 participate in French lessons on alternative half terms. This is delivered by our specialist French teacher. The teaching focuses on developing the children’s ability to listen to and speak in French. Pupil’s understanding of French will be developed through activities which bring together the requirements of the curriculum.
Impact
Children will enjoy and appreciate their developing French skills as they progress throughout Little Stanion Primary School. The impact of their knowledge and skills will be assessed by their French teacher at the end of each term. The impact of our curriculum will inspire children to develop their love of languages in the future.
